Celebrity Baby Boom. Picky Eaters, and Little Boys Clothes

Have you heard of the celebrity baby boom that seems to be going on in Hollywood? Almost a dozen notables are pregnant right now, from Reese Witherspoon (who I adore and I love that fact she didn’t “announce” her pregnancy) to Kourtney Kardashian to ( I hate to even put her name in this post) Snookie.

But the one generating the most publicity? Jessica Simpson.

She’s going a little overboard, acting as if she is the first woman to ever give birth. I understand her excitement, but she’s been spilling her guts to anyone who will listen about EVERY. DETAIL. OF. HER. PREGNANCY! C’mon. She also posed nude on the cover of Elle Magazine. I know it is all for publicity and she’s laughing all the way to the bank, but again, C’mon!

I recently saw an interview where she said she ate cheesecake for breakfast that morning and fried chicken for lunch. Not smart, Jess. I’m not one to knock the way women look while they are pregnant (some people did that to me while I was still reporting on air) but healthy eating is so important while pregnant. Check out one of my favorite blogs, www.ladyplusbaby.com. The author is 48 and about to give birth to her first child. She also got pregnant “naturally” and it was a total surprise!

This great blog also has posts from a nutritionist, who writes about how important it is to eat healthy foods while pregnant. Jess should read it!

Which brings me to another point. New studies suggest that what you eat during pregnancy can affect what your child eats for the rest of their lives! I’m a little concerned about our picky eater right now…

because he won’t touch any type of meat! He doesn’t like chicken, hamburger, turkey, lunch meat, any of it! And guess what? I’m not a huge meat eater, either and I barely touched the stuff when I was pregnant. We are working on it. I’m trying to make sure he has a well-rounded diet, but it’s challenging right now.

Parents, what are your tips for picky eaters?

Now on to my last and final thought of the day: Little boys clothes!

Image

There is nothing cuter to me than a little boy in bib overalls! While there are way, way, way more girls clothes out there than clothes for little boys, I think bib overalls are just precious! Yesterday, I purchased some new bibs for Blake and some new rompers…

Seeing him dressed so cute and innocent in these little clothes just puts me in my happy place! I know that I won’t be able to dress him like this for very long, so I’m going to get my fill of these cute clothes while I can!

Now I’d love to hear your thoughts. What do you think of all the self-imposed hype surrounding Jessica Simpson and her pregnancy?

How do you deal with picky eaters?

How do you like to dress your children? Do you have clothes you especially love to dress them in?

Enjoy this beautiful Thursday!

TV for Toddlers

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel guilty when I let my son watch too much TV. Don’t get me wrong, I think a little TV is fine. When I first became pregnant, my husband and I quickly decided we weren’t going to be the kind of parents that never let their kids watch TV or eat sugar. To me, that’s just plain weird and not realistic. I think that kids who grew up never allowed to do “normal” things, like have a cookie or watch TV, end up rebelling and don’t understand how to live a balanced life with moderation.

That being said, I do try to limit Blake’s television intake. There is one show, however, that I let him watch almost everyday and I think it is just plain AWESOME. It’s called SuperWhy!

This cartoon is all about reading and learning letters and numbers. All of the characters are called “Super readers”. They sound out and spell words and I think this show is so educational, it’s even better than Sesame Street.

I’ve also really noticed a difference in Blake’s vocabulary and I credit SuperWhy for some of that. Blake can probably say around 40 words right now, which is pretty darn good for a 17 month old! My husband and I talk to him all the time, and I also take him to Gymboree class, swimming lessons and we’ve also done kindermusik.  I know he’s picked up a lot at those classes, but there are some words and letters that we haven’t gone over and he just knows them. My husband and I both think it’s because of SuperWhy. The show airs on PBS kids and the SPROUT Channel, which I also love.

What shows or programs have you found beneficial for your kids? I love getting advice and hearing from other moms. It’s so helpful! I hope your week is off to a great start!
