Mad Dash to the Sunshine State!

What a whirlwind of a weekend! This weekend, we made a planned trip to see my husband’s mom in Florida. She spends winters there and has been gone sine Jan. It was a VERY quick trip, just Fri-Mon…which can be a challenge with a toddler!

We flew into the Tampa airport on Friday and the weather was gorgeous! Dean’s mom’s condo is about a half hour from the airport, near St. Pete Beach. We immediately got into our bathing suits!

I prefer taking Blake to the beach over the pool. At this stage it is MUCH easier! He can run wherever he wants on the beach, splash in the water, and not really get into any trouble. The pool is a whole other story. I worry about him falling on concrete or into the pool. While I love pools too, I also prefer the beach, even when Blake isn’t with us!

We had a great time running and playing in the sand!

And Blake with me! It was very hard to get him to stop running for a picture!

My MIL’s condo isn’t far from the famed and historical Don Cesar Hotel. We always like to stop there for a quick walk through or drink.

The weather was, of course, beautiful for our entire short stay. Dean and I managed to have a “date night” on Saturday, too. After we all went to dinner and put Blakey to sleep, we went to a nearby restaurant to listen to some live music…..

We got back to Cleveland yesterday afternoon and it was 65 and sunny! Not bad at all!

It was a great, relaxing weekend, I just wish we could have stayed one more day!

As a side note,…I really enjoyed all your comments and views on my last blog post,“When to start school…to red shirt or not to red shirt?”. (If you missed it, you can read it here) There was a spirited debate on my personal facebook page as well. Both sides brought up great points. I invite you to “like” my Reporter Turned Mommy Facebook page by clicking here and we can keep the conversations going, not only on my blog, but facebook page as well!

One weekend…Three Cleveland restaurants!

Today…I’m  full. We had a weekend packed with dinners with friends and I indulged a little too much!

Friday, we headed to Twinsburg for dinner with our friends Scott and Sherry.

(sorry the picture is blurry…in a mad dash to get out of the house without Blake crying I forgot my camera and had to use my phone…don’t worry…the pictures get better!)

They live near Twinsburg and our favorite spot out that way is BLUE CANYON KITCHEN! Chef Brandt Evans never disappoints! Being the only non-Catholic of the group (I’m Methodist), I got beef tenderloin on Friday while the rest of the group got some sort of fish.

We had a great time catching up with Scott and Sherry. Funny thing..we (ok I) thought Gwyneth Paltrow was having dinner at the next table! I promise, the woman at the table looked and acted exactly like Gwyneth! We all had a good laugh over that!

Saturday afternoon, my parents came in town for the day. The made the short three hour drive from WV to spend some quality time with Blake. Dean and I already had dinner plans with two other couples.

Our friends Kim and Chris were celebrating their five year wedding anniversary! Here’s a picture of Kim and I.

We all headed to Crop, a great restaurant in the West 25th Street area of Cleveland, near the West Side Market.

Image

Crop is located inside an old bank building and it is absolutely beautiful inside!

There, we met our friends Jack and Heather. We hadn’t had dinner with them in about two years, so it was great to finally get together!

The girls!

I feel silly taking pictures of food, so you’re not going to see pics of what we ordered! We had a great dinner, followed by dessert. Yes, I had dessert two nights in a row. Ugh. Time to hit the gym!

Sunday morning, we all got up early and headed to brunch at Grumpy’s in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood.

Image

This is an amazing brunch restaurant and the staff could not have been more accommodating to Blake. They had crayons, brought him out fruit right away and helped us keep him entertained!

Blakey and Daddy!

Here’s a look at my parents…Papa and Grammy…or “Ming” as Blake has been calling her for some reason! haha

We ended the weekend watching our absolute favorite show, THE GOOD WIFE! Dean and I think that is the best show on television!

How did you spend your weekend?
