While today is a somber day and one that those of us who lived through it will never forget, it is also my husband’s birthday. It is actually fitting, because my husband is the most patriotic person I know.
While most people complain about politics and think they know it all, based on information from a political pundit, or something they read online, my husband is a true public servant. He has dedicated his life to serving his community.
Now that we are in a presidential election year, friends and family are constantly trying to engage Dean in a political debate. He won’t go there. He never does. Dean has the courage of his convictions, based on his life experiences and his knowledge as a constitutional scholar. He is wise enough not to try to convince others to see the world the way he does. We all know that never happens, anyway. There are times when I have told him he could easily win most political debates, given that in most cases, he is the only person in the room or on the e-mail chain that has actually put himself out there, run for office and served for decades. He is still above that and won’t engage.
As the presidential election draws closer, and the rhetoric and divisiveness gets nastier and nastier, I hope more people will follow the example of my husband and rise above the idle chatter. His cool head and ability to truly listen to what others have to say, is one of the reasons I fell in love with him.
Happy Birthday, Dean!
In other news, Blake and I go to our first “Mommy and Me” Pre-school class today. I’m so excited and will fill you in on how it goes!
Enjoy this beautiful fall day and of course, take time to remember the victims and the heroes of 9/11.

What a great post! Happy birthday, Dean!
Hope Dean has a great day! Such a sweet post!
