I found it!

on August 7, 2012

After searching high and low, I finally purchased Blake’s “big boy” furniture. I don’t think I’ve ever done so much research or window shopping in my life! I went to Pottery Barn Kids (love their selection…ridiculously overpriced), Value City (didn’t like their selection), JC Penny (great furniture but they didn’t have the colors we wanted), Levin, Target, Babies R US, This End Up, a variety of Amish Country stores online (they were 4x the price of PBK!) and I even stopped at Ikea in Pittsburgh on my way back from my friend’s wedding shower in Morgantown, WV (I wasn’t impressed with their kids selection).

I am usually not a very picky shopper. In fact, I’m a speed shopper and can make purchasing decisions very quickly. That’s why it was driving me nuts that I couldn’t find what I was looking for. Everything was either too expensive or poor quality. That is…until I took the advice of my friend Bridget and went to Berg’s Baby in Willoughby Hills.

I had a preconceived notion that Berg’s Baby was similar to PBK in price, but that is NOT the case. They have a wonderful selection of kids and teen furniture and I found the prices very reasonable. This is what I chose for Blake.

We got this set from Matrix Kids Collection at Berg Baby, only in a different finish. We chose Chestnut. We got the twin bed, trundle, rails, a single dresser and mirror….all for more than a grand LESSĀ  than PBK charges for a similar bed and dresser. (PBK also doesn’t have any mirrors that I could find to match their dressers and the rails at PBK are an additional charge).

I still like PBK for ideas and I will probably get some bedding or other accents from there, but why pay so much more when if you do a little research, you can get what you want and save?!

Our bedroom set will be here in six to 10 weeks. I’m so glad I ordered it now since “Baby D” will be here not long after that!

Love it!! Good choice. Might have to check that place out. Good for you for not giving into Pottery Barn. I swear people just buy stuff there to say “I got this at Pottery Barn.” Big deal. Pottery Barn is way overpriced and the quality is not there. Love the catalog for ideas, but that’s about it. Hope Blake adjust the big boy bed easily. We are not even attempting the transition until next year hopefully.

    • Julie I think you would really like Berg Baby. it’s a trek from your house, but worth it. I called beforehand and they went over pricing with me, since they don’t put prices on their website. I’m so glad I didn’t have to go with PBK, too! I was really getting frustrated last week when I couldn’t find anything and I almost opened up a PBK credit card and bought what I liked there. So glad I didn’t!
I don’t blame you in waiting to transition Jason. Why rush it if you don’t have to?

  2. Hi
Love it. We ordered a big girl bed this weekend, too. We bought local, too and a furniture store. We ordered it out of the catalogue. It was less than PB Kids, too.
