“Big Boy Furniture” and the Double Stroller

on July 18, 2012

Baby #2 is going to be here before we know it and we have A LOT to do!

Here’s a look at my “baby bump”. This is one of bestie’s, Brooke, and I, taken at her bridal shower last weekend.

Our goal is to get Blake, who turns two next month, into a “big boy bed” by September.

We want our little guy to have enough time to adjust to his new bed and dresser before the baby arrives. We also don’t want him to think his younger sibling stole all of his stuff!

I don’t use Pinterest very much, but I do find it very useful when shopping for big ticket items. I just created a “Big Boy Furniture” Pinboard here.

Here are a few bed and furniture sets I like.

Image

This set is from Pottery Barn Kids. I like the low to the floor setting on the twin bed. With rails, I think Blake would be very secure in this bed. The problem? As you know, PBK can be pricey and I can’t seem to find a mirror to go with ANY of their bed/dresser set.

I really like this set from JC Penny and the price is right. We could also dress it up with accents from Pottery Barn Kids. The problem? It is only on-line and in the catalog, so we can’t actually look at it. Blake’s current dresser/changing table and mirror came from JC Penny, though, and it is very good quality.

I love this lighter, pine bed and the matching shelf from Pottery Barn Kids. Same issues, though, no mirror and pricey.

Lastly, if we were to splurge and put Blake into a bed he would only love for a few years, it would be this one!

This boat bed is absolutely adorable! However, it’s an extravagance in my book and how many years is he going to want to sleep in a boat bed?

A new trend seems to be trundle beds, like this one.

The Trundle seems to be the new “bunk bed”. Though it seems like ages before Blake will have his first sleep over, I know those days will be here before we know it. Since we are hoping to purchase a bed he will be in until adolescence, is it worth it get get a trundle? I need advice parents!

On to the next item of business….THE DOUBLE STROLLER.

Baby Talk Magazine just did a feature on strollers and the Valco Baby Zee Two’s double stroller seemed to get the best review.

However, I’ve heard that “side by side” double strollers can be difficult to maneuver in stores and entryways. I need advice parents! What double strollers to you like/recommend?  Blake will be 27 months when the new baby arrives and even though he may not want to be in a stroller anymore, for my sanity, he will need to be restrained in public places!

I’m looking forward to hearing what you think and getting your advice. I need to order these items fairly soon, since shipping can often take six-eight weeks.

I hope you are enjoying your week and staying cool in these 95-plus degree days!

Strollers: HIGHLY recommend the Graco DuoGliders strollers. These strollers are light weight, and literally feels like you’re only pushing one child at a time. As with any double strollers, they sometimes are a pain when shopping in smaller stores because of the length, but my BEST purchase by far, was the DuoGlider.

LOVE JCPenny for kids furniture! We bought Jason’s crib there. The same exact crib is in the Pottery Barn catelog and it is $300 more than the $199 we paid at JCP !!! Pottery Barn is way over priced. I don’t get the whole Pottery Barn-thing. Like to get ideas from the catelog and then buy the items at other stores. We plan to get Jason a trundle bed so that he can have friends sleep over and also, if we have another baby and lose our guest room, we still have two beds in Jason room for guests. Happy shopping!!! Can’ wait for the little one to arrive!!

We have a combi & I love it. We still use it & the kids r 5 & 6! Plus, we were able to put our infant car seat in it even though our seat was not a combi. It folds up great & fits in my Durango perfectly! It also fits perfectly through doorways.
    Good luck.

  4. Thank you for mentioning JC Penny. I need to look there for Baby Diva. We need a white bed for her. For my son, we have a really good tots to teens furniture store here that carries a lot of the lines from High Point (you probably remember that from your Charlotte days) We bought both of the dressers there. His baby dresser which is now hers, and his new one. We used an antique twin bed that belonged to my mom and we refinished it. We bought a book shelf from Company Kids. Love PB Kids, but I don’t think the price and quality always “go together”. We’ve not looked yet.

The problem with most of the side by side strollers is you can’t put the infant carrier/car seat thingy in the stroller so doesn’t work well when baby is new (and you can’t McGyver it, we tried). So we purchased the non side by side stroller. We purchased on of the lightest, but still not the easiest to open & close. We also purchased a side by side second hand to use when the little one is a bit older. Having three strollers now I much prefer the strollers with actual rubber wheels rather than the plastic. Especially if you are doing an off-roading!!!

We purposefully left Luke in the crib when Levi was born. All because I didn’t want to deal with him getting out of bed and trying to come down the steps or climb a gate, etc with an infant also. Me being lazy!
