I think it’s time. My little guy is giving me signs and I’m going to start potty training.
As a first time mom, I’ll be the first to admit, I really don’t know what I’m doing. My instincts are telling me to just go with the flow and start the training using good ole’ common sense. I don’t think I need any books to show me how to teach my little one to use the potty. What do you think?
At the suggestion of a friend (thanks Danielle!) I bought a little baby seat to place on top of our “grown-up” potty. I purchased one similar to this…
We will see if it works. I’m praying it does because the thought of cleaning out a little baby potty makes me cringe!
While I’m not planning on buying any potty training books for me, I do think I’ll get one for Blake, to help him get used to the idea.
Blake is now 21 months old and my pediatrician said most toddlers are potty trained between 2.5 and 3.5. However, like I said, my little guy is giving me signs so I’m going to start now. I would love to have him potty trained before the new baby arrives late this fall!
Did you buy any potty training books for your kiddos or even to help you teach your little one? How long did it take you to potty train your toddler? I would really appreciate any tips!

I say GO FOR IT! I would want to have the seed planted before the new baby arrives too. I have heard of kids ‘reverting’ back though. And, that could happen after Baby D #2 arrives. Who knows?
I think it’s a great idea. We had all 4 potty trained before they were 2. Boys are different than girls in regards to their wiener sticks up when they go. For Ryan we had him face the toilet that way he didn’t need to touch it & there was no clean up like there is with facing forward. Plus he thought it was fun!
Some friends put Cheerios in the water & made a game of it. We never did but I heard that worked. I also set a timer to go off every 30 minutes & put him on whether he said he had to go or not. Good luck.
HI
Baby Diva is showing signs, too. Actutally, she is doing it now, but she is not trained. I’ve not done anything. My son showed no interesrt whatsoever, and wouldn’t even wear a pull-up. With that said, the week of his birthday (age 3), he was trained within a week and never had an accident. My friends potty-trained earlier, and there were a lot of slip-ups, etc so it just makes the process a lot longer. Good luck!!!
