BB Cream

Have you ever heard of BB Cream? I just heard of it for the first time a few days ago. The TODAY SHOW  contributor Jenn Falik did a beauty segment on this new skin cream that is supposed to be the new “it” item! Check out this segment here.  I googled it today and here’s what I found…

There are MANY different brands. Above are the BB Cream brands that Sephora offers. According to the Sephora website…BB Cream is

“…..short for “blemish balm” or “beauty balm”—is truly an all-in-one skincare wonder. Their lightweight, multitasking formulas provide SPF sunscreen protection and work to moisturize, conceal, and treat skin in just one simple step. The silky, tinted lotions effortlessly blend with your natural tone, minimize the need for concealer and foundation, camouflage lines and imperfections, and serve as a skin-perfecting primer. With just one swipe, skin is left looking smooth, glowing, and natural.

BRTCSTORE.com also claims they are the “official” BB cream site and that the trend came from Asia.

I’m intrigued. I hate wearing makeup if I’m spending the day on the beach or just running to the grocery store or gym, but I also like a little coverage and BB cream may be the answer.

Before I pick a brand to try, I want to hear if any of you have tried BB cream and if so, what kind do you like? Can’t wait to hear if you’ve heard of this “new” trend!

TV for Toddlers

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel guilty when I let my son watch too much TV. Don’t get me wrong, I think a little TV is fine. When I first became pregnant, my husband and I quickly decided we weren’t going to be the kind of parents that never let their kids watch TV or eat sugar. To me, that’s just plain weird and not realistic. I think that kids who grew up never allowed to do “normal” things, like have a cookie or watch TV, end up rebelling and don’t understand how to live a balanced life with moderation.

That being said, I do try to limit Blake’s television intake. There is one show, however, that I let him watch almost everyday and I think it is just plain AWESOME. It’s called SuperWhy!

This cartoon is all about reading and learning letters and numbers. All of the characters are called “Super readers”. They sound out and spell words and I think this show is so educational, it’s even better than Sesame Street.

I’ve also really noticed a difference in Blake’s vocabulary and I credit SuperWhy for some of that. Blake can probably say around 40 words right now, which is pretty darn good for a 17 month old! My husband and I talk to him all the time, and I also take him to Gymboree class, swimming lessons and we’ve also done kindermusik.  I know he’s picked up a lot at those classes, but there are some words and letters that we haven’t gone over and he just knows them. My husband and I both think it’s because of SuperWhy. The show airs on PBS kids and the SPROUT Channel, which I also love.

What shows or programs have you found beneficial for your kids? I love getting advice and hearing from other moms. It’s so helpful! I hope your week is off to a great start!

A Weekend Gala

This weekend, we dusted off our party shoes, tuxes and cocktail dresses, to attend the Parma Area Chamber of Commerce Ball. This year, Dean was honored for his annual 5k run/walk for charity. Here is a picture of Dean and I all gussied up!

Image

As you can see, I wore blue this year. I’d been in a dress rut for a while, wearing a simple black dress to almost every event we attend. It felt good to wear some color!

It was also nice to socialize and see everyone all dressed up.

Here’s a picture of my sister-in-law Laura, my friend Lynn and I.

Dean gave a great and BRIEF (love that!) acceptance speech, we mingled a little, then we were both so tired we headed home. We can’t hang like we used to! haha

In addition to the gala Saturday night, Friday, we had dinner at a great newer Italian restaurant in Parma called Vivo. It is a small, intimate place, on Ridge Road. We love it! I had salmon with a homemade risotto an it was out of this world!

This week, Blake and I are headed south to see my family in Hilton Head…we are looking forward to it! My parents and brother and SIL haven’t seen Blake since Christmas. It will also be nice to get out of the cold weather for a while!

How did you spend your weekend? Parents out there…are you as tired as I always am on Sundays? :)

For the love of a dog….

Meet Little Elliott….

This French Bull Dog has had quite a year. It started off like any other year. He enjoyed talking long walks, playing at local dog parks in his hometown of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and spending quality time with his parents, Chris and Cassie (my brother and sister-in-law). Then, in the spring, Little Elliott got sick.

Steals and Deals!

Blake has no “scheduled” activities on Wednesday, so that is our day to run errands and get things done! Today, however, we had a frivolous day shopping and lunching at South Park Mall in Strongsville,,,and let me tell you…there are A LOT of good deals right now!

I needed some new sweaters and long sleeved shirts,,,basically clothes I can bumb around in with Blake. The majority of my wardrobe is still suits and TV clothes that I never wear anymore. I can’t believe the deals I found today!

Our first stop was Banana Republic, where I got this shirt…

for $12.99!

A girl can dream…

image

This is what I’m dreaming of on this dreary Tuesday…a sunset on the Carolina shore! It is cold, blah and drizzling here in the Cleveland area. It doesn’t help that my parents and brother and SIL all live in Hilton Head!
Oh well…lots to do here today! We are having a meeting at our house tonight about my husband’s annual 5k walk/run for charity. More on that later.
For now…I still need to work out…clean the house…and try to make myself presentable…all while Blake takes his nap! Wish me luck!

A little of this and that!

We are starting off the week with a few goals!

1. My husband and I want a new comforter. We got one as a wedding gift almost four years ago and, at the time, I was obsessed with our “new” monogram. I still LOVE monograms, but ours is a little overdone. It was from Pottery Barn and every item that could get monogrammed, well, got monogrammed! We have “KDD” on sheets, pillows, the duvet, I could keep going! Take a look!

I know…it’s obnoxious! haha

Blake’s special treat!

image

Blake got a special treat today at lunch….a mini red velvet cupcake! We are expecting a clipper system to move through the Cleveland area tonight…so we went to the store to stock up on our essentials! Of course red velvet cupcakes are essential in a snow storm! Haha
Have a great weekend!

Pinterest? Really?

I just heard about Pinterest (www.pinterest.com) about two weeks ago. We were out to dinner with some friends and a girlfriend of mine told me I had to join it. The next day, I went online to check it out, but, oh no, you can’t just join it. You have to be “invited”. I got an email saying I would be put on a “waiting list”. What is this…some hot club in New York City?

I finally got the green light to join and I signed up last night. My friend Stacey told me I just had to get on Pinterest. She said, “Everybody’s doing it and we need to stay current.” Lord help us.

When I got on the site, I found it jumbled and confusing. There was stuff everywhere. For those of you that don’t know, it’s basically a site where you can find pictures of anything you like on the internet, be it pictures, recipes, videos, and then post or “pin”, (as the site calls it) those images on a virtual board. People are obsessed with it.

As I scrolled through the pages, I felt like I do when I walk into a TJ Maxx or a Nordstrom Rack. There’s junk everywhere, and I can’t seem to see through the clutter to get a good look at what is actually there. I usually walk out of the Max and the Rack pretty quickly, and that’s exactly what I did last night with Pinterest…I logged out!

However, I am going to give it another shot, for fear that I won’t stay “current”. haha I actually came across a blog today that offers a great tutorial on Pinterest.  Check out http://www.2wired2tired.com She can explain the site better than I can!

Happy Thursday!

Insanity Workout – Extreme Home Workout DVD – Insanity Workout Reviews – beachbody.com

Insanity Workout – Extreme Home Workout DVD – Insanity Workout Reviews – beachbody.com.

We all have our workout routines, and I have never done ANYTHING like Insanity! This is my second round of the 60 day workout program. I did it for the first time late August into early fall and started it up again about two weeks ago.

It is not fun. It is HARD work. I hate it when I’m doing it, but I feel GREAT when I’m done. Insanity consists of 10 workout videos and instructions on what video to do on what day. They tell you right off the bat it’s not for everyone, and that’s the truth! You jump high in the air, do a lot of push-ups, squats and intense cardio interval training.

This time around, I’m doing the videos in front of a mirror. Sounds silly, but it keeps me motivated! I can see the areas of my body I want to improve AND I can tell if I’m doing the exercises correctly by looking in the mirror.

Insanity also doesn’t take up a lot of time. For the first month, the videos average about 40 mins and the second month, they increase to 60 mins. It is hard trying to get in those longer videos with Blakey. I always put him in his pack-and-play, with books and some toys. Even though I am right there,. I still feel guilty I’m not playing with him. A mother’s guilt is all-consuming!

What are your workout routines? I’ve also tried the BAR METHOD and I like it a lot, too. I only have one video, though and I may order some more.

Enjoy your Wednesday! I’m watching the snow lightly fall here in the Cleveland area and enjoying the peace and quiet that comes with nap time! :)
